The Road Least Traveled

Darold and Pat Larson are veterans in the pro-life movement. In spite of all the opposition, Larsons activism and perseverance over the last 18 years have helped numerous young women during a time of crisis in their lives. They have truly chosen ‘the road least traveled!’

Darold Larson was raised on a farm in rural North Dakota. Ironically, the community was named HOPE! He regularly attended the local Lutheran church. Darold was a graduate of Hope High School and left the farm to find his niche in life. He became an accomplished sales and marketing person.

He and his wife Pat met and were soon married. Pat was raised in a traditional Catholic home, attended college and became a Registered Nurse. She possessed many other talents that helped Darold in his variety of business projects.

In 1972 Darold, while passing out fliers for a Billy Graham Crusade in Fargo, was lead to Christ by the pastor of a small Evangelical Free Church in Moorhead, Minnesota. Soon thereafter Pat also accepted Christ and their ‘Jesus Journey’ would begin.

From the time of their conversions, Darold and Pat both have had a passion for the things of the Lord. In 1980 they became involved in an effort to prevent an abortion provider from opening up in North Dakota. Despite gallant efforts by hundreds of people, there was no stopping this intrusion of permissiveness into the calms of the North Dakota prairies.

Shortly after the abortion providers opened their doors, the Larsons opened the Women’s Care Clinic in the front porch of their modest Fargo home. Pat provided 24 hour counseling via the hotline and by appointment. Women come from everywhere to receive a free pregnancy test. From there the ministry grew into a multi-faceted organization called Help and Caring Ministries that also includes the Perry Center (a mothering home), a Christian adoption agency, a Christian Counseling Service, Christian Legal Services and a Chritian credit counseling agency to help support the ministries financially.

There has been tremendous ‘spiritual warfare’ that has surrounded the Larsons efforts over the years. The abortion providers have tried many times and in many ways to squelch the Larsons voice for the unborn. Three years ago pro-abortion North Dakota State Regulators tried to dismantle the ministry through legal channels.  After three years of legal proceedings, the state regulators have still not accomplished this. However, their efforts have now landed the ministry in North Dakota Appeals Court and have tied up ministry funds for caring for expectant mothers and the unborn. In spite of being wounded and broken by the state and abandoned by a few friends, the Larsons voice has still not been silenced. The ministry has been blessed and continues to touch the lives of many.

The final chapter has not yet been written on earth, but in heaven, God has placed the final dot on the end of the sentence. I don’t know what it says but I know it was covenanted by His blood signed in His love!
