Monday Morning Pastor’s Letter: February 25, 2002

Good Morning Pastor!

It is truly a delight to be able to share with you this Monday morning. I know you have had an exhausting weekend because that’s the way it is in the life of the church. But be blessed today and know that God is good!

Many of you are probably considering, in the middle of or finishing a construction project of some kind. How do I know? Because it seems like churches are always doing something to the facility to improve or repair it. I have done a lot of building remodeling over the years and I can honestly say, “I’ve never done a project that I liked!” I got some satisfaction from all of them but sometimes the cost was too great, especially in those younger years before I learned to “thrive” instead of just “survive” in ministry.

One of my first experiences of church construction projects came before I was a pastor and I was attending a board meeting for the first time ever. Someone had donated money to paint the bathroom but they had designated that the walls be painted yellow! Therefore, a vigorous debate took place for nearly an hour as to what color the bathroom walls were going to be. I have never forgotten the meeting because it was such a waste of time. That’s one reason that my monthly church board meetings are ended after 45 minutes. Everyone comes informed, prepared and decisive. The color of the walls are never an issue at my board meetings but the color people’s hearts are!

So if your church is in a project, remove the obstructions, finish the construction, do a debt reduction and get into holy production!

In His Delight,

Lyn Sahr
