It’s the sunrise of a new day! Around the world yesterday, the church celebrated the resurrection our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I trust that you sensed that magnificent splendor of God’s people celebrating that new life. For many pastors, the day after a special service can be quite a letdown. However, it should not be. Let the glow of His glory continue to touch you this day and the remainder of the week. Let me tell you why.
Many churches see faces on Easter Sunday that they only see once or twice a year if that often. I know of someone who went to church yesterday who hadn’t been in church for several years. They were excited about being there and I was excited for them. The question is, “How many months or years will it be until they attend another service?” Well, I have good news for you. It could be sooner than you think!
I suggest that you make a list of all of those who were in attendance in your church yesterday who you don’t see very often and go and visit them this week. They came to see you and now it is time for you to go and see them. Not to challenge them but to let them know that you appreciate them being there. Spend some time with them and catch up on their lives, their needs, their concerns and their relationship with the Lord. In a loving non-threatening time you may find yourself praying with a person who has had no one pray with them or for them in years and years. This is the time to show your heart for those who have distanced themselves from the church. Even though they may have forgotten about the church the church must let them know that the church has not forgotten about them.
Will they start attending regularly? Maybe not but maybe so! But I can almost guarantee you that without the visit they will not change their attendance habits.
And finally, you may find yourself really blessed by the time that you spend with them.
In His Delight,
