Real Signs On Church Property
Free Trip to heaven. Details Inside!
Try our Sundays. They are better than Baskin-Robbins.
Searching for a new look? Have your faith lifted here!
An ad for St.Joseph’s Episcopal Church has a picture of two hands
holding stone tablets on which the Ten Commandments are inscribed & a
headline that reads: “For fast, fast relief, take two tablets.”
When the restaurant next to the Lutheran Church put out a big sign with
red letters that said, “Open Sundays.” The church reciprocated with
its own message: “We are open on Sundays, too.”
Have trouble sleeping? We have sermons — come hear one!
A singing group called “The Resurrection” was scheduled to sing at a
church. When a big snowstorm postponed the performance, the pastor
fixed the outside sign to read, “The Resurrection is postponed.”
People are like tea bags-you have to put them in hot water before you
know how strong they are.
God so loved the world that he did not send a committee.
Come in and pray today. Beat the Christmas rush!
When down in the mouth, remember Jonah. He came out all right.
Sign broken. Message inside this Sunday.
Fight truth decay — study the Bible daily.
How will you spend eternity — Smoking or Nonsmoking?
Dusty Bibles lead to Dirty Lives.
Come work for the Lord. The work is hard, the hours are long and the
pay is low. But the retirement benefits are out of this world.
It is unlikely there’ll be a reduction in the wages of sin.
Do not wait for the hearse to take you to church.
If you’re headed in the wrong direction, God allows U-turns.
If you don’t like the way you were born, try being born again.
Looking at the way some people live, they ought to obtain eternal fire
insurance soon.

There seems to be a lot of criticism these days about churches. One that is rather common is the way churches handle their business affairs, particularly financial planning, record keeping and reporting. I have heard it said, “Churches need to operate like a business.” Although that aspect of the life of a church is important, the real need today is for churches to operate like churches!

It is amazing how powerful the songs of the faith are. We memorize them or portions of them and we can worship in song anywhere at anytime. The words are often encouraging and comforting. Today I have been humming, whistling and singing a song that has such a beautiful melody and lyrics. Maybe it will touch your life in a special way today.
I asked the Lord to comfort me,
When things weren’t going my way.
He said to me, “I will comfort you,
And take your cares away.”
I asked the Lord to walk with me,
When darkness was all that I knew.
He said to me, “Do not be afraid,
For I will see you through.”
I didn’t ask for riches,
He gave me wealth untold.
The moon, the stars, the sun, the sky,
And He gave me eyes to behold.
I thank the Lord for everything,
And I count my blessings each day.
He’s always near when I’ve needed Him,
He’s only a prayer away.

My next-door neighbor is what you would call a procrastinator. He mows his lawn only 3-4 times a year and clears his drive only after a major snowstorm. This past fall began raking the leaves in his yard only to quit leaving the rakes and plastic hauling containers in his backyard.
At first it was a joke in our house as to how long he would leave them there. Well, winter set in and he still did not move them. Now they are covered by snow and you can see the “bump” in the yard where rakes and container sit. Sin is a lot like that. We mean to quit doing something, change a sinful habit or behavior but as time goes on we just “cover” it up much like the snow covered my neighbors tools and hope no one will see it.
Our heavenly father sees our sin-streaked heart and knows what we really are. God tells us that he will forgive our sins. If we only ask, he will cleanse us and make us “white as snow.” Does he promise that everything will be fine after forgiveness? No.
The snow will melt revealing the tools in my neighbors yard. The snow will melt that covers our sin giving us the repercussion of our actions but God will forgive us of our sins no matter what they are.
Have you been covering up your sin, sugar coating something that needs to change in your life? As the great him of the faith says, “Tell it to Jesus.” Get rid of the tools in the backyard. Put them in the shed where they belong and move on with your life. God has something fantastic in store for you.

More on the Lighter Side…
Little Leroy and God
Little Leroy came into the kitchen where his mother was making dinner. His birthday was coming up and he thought this was a good time to tell his mother what he wanted. “Mom, I want a bike for my birthday.”
Little Leroy was a bit of a trouble maker. He had gotten into trouble at school and at home. Leroy’s mother asked him if he thought he deserved to get a bike for his birthday. Little Leroy, of course, thought he did.
Leroy’s mother, being a Christian woman, wanted Leroy to reflect on his behavior over the last year. “Go to your room, Leroy, and think about how you have behaved this year. Then write a letter to God and tell him why you deserve a bike for your birthday.” Little Leroy stomped up the steps to his room and sat down to write God a Letter.
Letter 1
Dear God,
I have been a very good boy this year and I would like a bike for my birthday. I want a red one.
Your friend, Leroy
Leroy knew that this wasn’t true. He had not been a very good boy this year, so he tore up the letter and started over.
Letter 2
Dear God,
This is your friend Leroy. I have been a good boy this year and I would like a red bike for my birthday. Thank you.
Your friend, Leroy
Leroy knew that this wasn’t true either. So he tore up the letter and started again.
Letter 3
Dear God,
I have been an “OK” boy this year. I still would really like a bike for my birthday.
Leroy
Leroy knew he could not send this letter to God either. So, Leroy wrote a fourth letter.
Letter 4
God,
I know I haven’t been a good boy this year. I am very sorry. I will be a good boy if you just send me a bike for my birthday. PLEASE!!!
|
Thank you,
Leroy
Leroy knew, even if it were true, this letter was not going to get him a bike. Now, Leroy was very upset. He went downstairs and told his mom that he wanted to go to church. Leroy’s mother thought her plan had worked as Leroy looked very sad. “Just be home in time for dinner,” Leroy’s mother told him.
Leroy walked down the street to the church on the corner. Little Leroy went into the church and up to the altar. He looked around to see if anyone was there. Leroy bent down and picked up a statue of the Virgin Mary. He slipped it under his shirt and ran out of the church, down the street, into the house, and up to his room. He shut the door to his room and sat down with a piece of paper and a pen. Leroy began to write his letter to God.
Letter 5
God,
I’VE GOT YOUR MAMA. IF YOU WANT TO SEE HER AGAIN, SEND THE BIKE!
Signed,
YOU KNOW WHO

Grandma’s Shoes
When I was very little
All the Grandmas that I knew
Were wearing the same kind
Of ugly grandma shoes
You know the kind I mean?
Clunky heeled, black, lace-up kind,
They just looked so very awful
That it weighed upon my mind,
For I knew, when I grew old.
I’d have to wear those shoes,
I’d think of that, from time to time
It seemed like such bad news.
I never was a rebel,
wore saddle shoes to school,
And next came ballerinas
Then the sandals, pretty cool.
And then came spikes with pointed toes
Then platforms, very tall,
As each new fashion came along
I wore them, one and all.
But always, in the distance,
Looming in my future, there,
Was that awful pair of ugly shoes,
The kind that Grandmas wear,
I eventually got married
And then I became a Mom
Our kids grew up and left,
And when their children came along,
I knew I was a Grandma
And the time was drawing near
When those clunky, black, old lace up shoes
Was what I’d have to wear.
How would I do my gardening
Or take my morning hike?
I couldn’t even think about
How I would ride my bike!
But fashions kept evolving
And one day I realized
That the shape of things to come
Was changing, right before my eyes.
And now, when I go shopping
What I see, fills me with glee
For, in my jeans and Reeboks
I’m as comfy as can be.
And I look at all these little girls
And there, upon their feet
Are clunky, black, old Grandma shoes,
And I think that’s kind of neat.

Bitterism… there is a cure!
It has been said that a person will never become an alcoholic if they never take the first drink. Although some would argue, there certainly is a truth involved here. Alcohol is often consumed in moderation to begin with, and then it consumes people and actually takes over their life to the point that we call them “alcoholics.”
Bitterness is similar in the fact that people make a choice in how to react to negative circumstances. After choosing bitterness repeatedly it becomes a habit and, like alcohol, takes over and a person quickly becomes a “bitteric.”
Many people have been freed from alcoholism through a 12-step program. Fortunately, bitterism can be cured in a one step program… repentance!
Bitterness is really disguised unforgiveness and is the cause of many negative spiritual, emotional and physical conditions… perhaps alcohol use being one of them!

Beautiful people are not the result of bad attitudes. There are plenty of heartaches in life that seem to be distributed quite equally, so that everyone seems to get his or her share in one form or another. Beautiful people are a result of beautiful attitudes about a beautiful God who gave each of us a beautiful life regardless of the circumstances.
And the beauty of God is not determined by our attitude, other than through our own eyes. God is beautiful regardless of how we see it.

A popular motel chain has the slogan, “We’ll leave the light on for you.” But what good is that? To get a room you have to pay!
I prefer “Hotel Heaven.” Jesus leaves the light on for everyone, there are always complimentary rooms and He is preparing a feast for each person who seeks Him.
Seek the light, but don’t settle for artificial light that will leave you out in the cold!

When I said I would follow you Lord, I didn’t realize the journey you had in mind. Not that I have any regrets of the past or fears of tomorrow but Lord my tears weigh me down.
I see the pain of the parent who lives in the shadow of hopelessness. I see husbands and wives destroying each other. I see the elderly in pain and closing their eyes at night, perhaps their last. And I see a child whose smile of innocence causes me anguish knowing full well of the tomorrow’s burdens. And Lord, there are times that I suffer too.
Considering all of these things Lord, I recognize more than ever that each of us has a tremendous need for you of a magnitude that is obviously beyond our measure and comprehension. In other words, God, we really need you bad!

In all that you see, see beauty.
In all that you feel, feel compassion.
In all that you hear, hear good.
In all that you say, say thanks.
In all that you do, do honorably.
In all that you pray, pray believing.
In all that you fear, fear God.
In all that you become, become Godly.
In all that you fail, fail humbly.
And with all of your being, be understanding.

On Thursday, May 27, 1999, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee’s sub-committee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:
“Since the dawn of creation there has been both good and evil in the heart of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers. The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field.
The villain was not the club he used. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain’s heart.
“In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA – because I don’t believe that they are responsible for my daughter’s death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended.
If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel’s murder I would be their strongest opponent. I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy – it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies!
Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves.
“I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best. This was written way before I knew I would be speaking here today.
“Your laws ignore our deepest needs
Your words are empty air
You’ve stripped away our heritage
You’ve outlawed simple prayer
Now gunshots fill our classrooms
And precious children die
You seek for answers everywhere
And ask the question “Why”
You regulate restrictive laws
Through legislative creed
And yet you fail to understand
That God is what we need!”
“Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, soul, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreck havoc.
Spiritual influences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation’s history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation?
“We have refused to honor God, and in doing so, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine’s tragedy occurs – politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties.
“We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts. Political posturing and restrictive legislation are not the answers. The young people of our nation hold the key. There is a spiritual awakening taking place that will not be quelched!
“We do not need more religion. We do not need more gaudy television evangelists spewing out verbal religious garbage. We do not need more million dollar church buildings built while people with basic needs are being ignored. We do need a change of heart and an humble acknowledgment that this nation was founded on the principle of simple trust in God!
“As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes – He did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America, and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School – prayer was brought back to our schools.”
“Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God – given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA – I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone! My daughter’s death will not be in vain. The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!”

It’s easy to be discouraged when you are trying to help people physically, emotionally or spiritually. Often it seems like there are so many needs and the job is just too big. But it’s always too soon to quit. Don’t give up. Keep trying. If you think you’re too small to make a difference, you have never been in bed with a mosquito!

Many people struggle with their spiritual growth. In that, their lack of growth is a mystery not only to them but also to others around them. Many people, like Lot’s wife, gaze on the past with desire to hold on to it. As long as one’s sinful past is an option there is no righteous future.

God’s boxes
I have in my hands two boxes that God gave me to hold. He said, “Put all your sorrows in the black box, and all your joys in the gold box.”
I heeded His words, and in the two boxes both my joys and sorrows I stored.
But though the gold became heavier each day and the black was as light as before.
With curiosity, I opened the black I wanted to find out why. I saw in the base of the box there was a hole that my sorrows had fallen out through.
I showed the hole to God, and mused aloud, “I wonder where my sorrows could be.” He smiled a gentle smile at me.” “My child, they’re all here with me.”
I asked, “God, why give me these boxes, why the gold, and the black with the hole in the bottom?”
“My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings, The black is for you to let go.”

It’s hard to patient and wait for things to happen in our lives. Everyone wants to arrive with instant success. Considering this, why is it that so many successful and wealthy people are in depressed, alcoholics, addicted or divorced. In other words, there are many successful people who are just plain unhappy. The “joy is in the journey.” Don’t be so anxious to obtain your goals and dreams that you miss the great thrill of living.

Today I praise the Lord for all that He has done as once again I have witnessed His faithfulness. The problem with many people is that they only want to experience God’s faithfulness for themselves and often are so self-centered that they can’t see the abundance of His mercy and grace He has provided for them. Be a witness to God’s faithfulness in the lives of others and your eyes will be suddenly opened to His faithfulness in your life. And above all, turn your eyes upon Jesus!

“One size fits all” doesn’t work for shoes and it doesn’t work for advice.
God made us each unique and the circumstances that we encounter usually have a sense of uniqueness to them as well. Carefully, prayerfully listen to the circumstances of others and share your insights with great caution. Walking in someone else’s shoes may look easy but it is extremely tricky if not impossible.
Tuesday, January 4, 2000
A patient, listening ear and a kind word is often more important than good advice.
It’s hard to give people advice about circumstances that we have no experience in. When God places someone in our lives that requires advice from us it is generally directly relatedto circumstances (successes or failures) that we previously encountered. Until we have experienced a similar pain we have little advice to offer someone that will have meaning.

A Prayer For Your Future
May you get a clean bill of health from your dentist, your cardiologist, your gastro-endocrinologist, your urologist, your proctologist, your podiatrist, your psychiatrist, your gynecologist, your plumber and the IRS.
May your hair, your teeth, your face-lift, your abs and your stocks not fall; and may your blood pressure, your triglycerides, your cholesterol, your white blood count and your mortgage interest not rise.
May you find a way to travel from anywhere to anywhere in the rush hour in less than an hour, and when you get there may you find a parking space.
May Friday evening, December 31, find you seated around the dinner table, together with your beloved family and cherished friends, ushering in the new year ahead. You will find the food better, the environment quieter, the cost much cheaper, and the pleasure much more fulfilling than anything else you might ordinarily do that night.
May you wake up on January 1st, finding that the world has not come to an end, the lights work, the water faucets flow, and the sky has not fallen.
May you go to the bank on Monday morning, January 3rd and find your account is in order, your money is still there and any mistakes are in your favor.
May you ponder on January 4th: “How did this ultramodern civilization of ours manage to get itself traumatized by a possible slip of a blip on a chip made out of sand?”
May we relax about the future and realize that we still have a long, long time until we pass, by which time the computer is long since obsolete and so are we.
May God give you the strength to go through a year of presidential campaigning, and may some f the promises made be kept.
May you believe at least half of what the candidates repose, and may those elected fulfill at least half of hat they promise, and the miracle of reducing taxes ad-balancing budgets happen.
May you be awe struck by God’s sense of humor as you wrestle with the possibility that a professional wrestler could become president of the United States.
May what you see in the mirror delight you, and what others see in you delight them.
May someone love you enough to forgive your faults, be blind to your blemishes, and tell the world about your virtues.
May the telemarketers wait to make their sales calls until you finish dinner, and may your checkbook and your budget balance, and may they include generous amounts for charity.
May you remember to say “I love you” at least once a day to your spouse, your child, your parents, and your friends; but not to your secretary, your nurse, your masseuse, your hairdresser or your tennis or golf instructor.
May we live as God intended, in a world at peace and the awareness of His love in every sunset, every flower’s unfolding petals, every baby’s smile, every lover’s kiss, and every wonderful, astonishing, miraculous beat of our heart.
May we all go out into the world each day and work like we don’t need the money, dance like no one is watching and love like we have never been hurt before.
Happy New Year !!!

“Installing Love”
Customer Service Rep: Can you install LOVE?
Customer: I can do that. I’m not very technical, but I think I am ready to install now. What do I do first?
CS Rep: The first step is to open your HEART. Have you located your HEART, ma’am?
Customer: Yes I have, but there are several programs running right now. Is it okay to install while they are running?
CS Rep: What programs are running,ma’am?
Customer: Let me see….I have PASTHURT.EXE, LOWESTEEM.EXE, GRUDGE.EXE,and RESENTMENT.COM running right now.
CS Rep: No problem. LOVE will automatically erase PASTHURT.EXE from your current operating system. It may remain in your permanent memory, but it will no longer disrupt other programs. LOVE will eventually overwrite LOWESTEEM.EXE with a module of its own called HIGHESTEEM.EXE
However, you have to completely turn off GRUDGE.EXE and RESENTMENT.COM. Those programs prevent LOVE from being properly installed. Can you turn those off, ma’am?
Customer: I don’t know how to turn themoff. Can you tell me how?
CS Rep: My pleasure. Go to your Start menu and invoke FORGIVENESS.EXE.
Do this as many times as necessary until GRUDGE.EXE and RESENTMENT.COM have
been completely erased.
Customer: Okay, I’m done. LOVE has started installing
itselfautomatically. Is that normal?
CS Rep: Yes it is. You should receive a message that says it willreinstall
for the life of your HEART. Do you see that mam?
Customer: Yes I do. Is it completely installed?
CS Rep: Yes, but remember that you have only the base program. You
need to begin connecting to other HEARTS in order to get the upgrades.
Customer: Oops…I have an error message already. What should I do?
CS Rep: What does the message say?
Customer: It says “ERROR 412 – PROGRAMNOT RUN ON INTERNAL
COMPONENTS.” What does that mean?
CS Rep: Don’t worry ma’am, that’s a common problem. it means that the
LOVE program is set up to run on external HEARTS but has not yet been run on
your HEART. It is one of those complicated programming things, butin
non-technical terms it means you have to “LOVE” your own machine before it
can “LOVE”
others.
Customer: So what should I do?
CS Rep: Can you find the directory called “SELF-ACCEPTANCE?”
Customer: Yes, I have it.
CS Rep Excellent, you are getting good at this.
Customer: Thank you
CS Rep: You’re welcome. Click on the following files and then copy
them to the “MYHEART” directory: FORGIVESELF.DOC,
SELFESTEEM.TXT,
REALIZEWORTH.TXT, and
GOODNESS.DOC.
The system will overwrite any conflicting files and begin patching any
faulty programming. Also, you need to delete SELFCRITICIZE.EXE from all
directories, and then empty your recycle bin afterwards to make sure
it is completely gone and never comes back.
Customer: Got it. Wow! My HEART is filling up with really neat files.
SMILE.MPG is playing on my monitor right now, and it shows
that WARMTH.COM, PEACE.EXE, and CONTENTMENT.COM are copying themselves all
over my HEART!
CS Rep: Then LOVE is installed andrunning. You should be able to handle
it from here. One more thing before I go…
Customer: Yes?
CS Rep: LOVE is freeware. Be sure to give it and its various modules to
everybody you meet. They will in turn share it with other people, and they
will
return some really neat modules back to you.
Customer: I will. Thank you for your help
CS Rep: You’re very welcome.
