Monday Morning Pastor’s Letter: June 10, 2002

Good Morning Pastor!

This morning I was thinking how difficult it is for people who do not believe in Jesus Christ and have no hope of eternal life. The battle for their soul is intense. We see it all the time in the life of the unbeliever. All I can say is that it’s great to be on the Lord’s side!

However, the church is not exempt from spiritual warfare. One of the dangers of the growing church is reactive leadership instead of proactive leadership. In the growing church there seems to be problems that need to be addressed every week as a result of growth. It’s easy to become so busy that everything is done as a result of growth rather than growth being as a result of what is being done. In other words, planned growth. The growing church can be stifled and even terminal as a result of reactive leadership in times of growth. So, if you want to grow you must plan to grow.

Although I could write for pages on this process I can sum it up best by saying growth rarely occurs that is not planned for. If it does come without planning it is rare that it is stable or long term. Great churches plan to grow and then patiently work the plan. Keep in mind that no church is staying the same numerically. They are either increasing or decreasing.  And in today’s high costs of operating the church, the downward spiral can be quick and fatal.

For me, in starting a new church, I plan to lay foundations for a stable ministry for the generations of the next hundred years and I work as if Jesus were coming back tomorrow.

In His Delight,
