Christians often misunderstand the boundaries of Christian living and behavior. Some think it extends only to their church friends and maybe their family. Many Christian business people love to use the phrase, “It’s business” when they are brokering a less than fair deal for all parties involved. Too often Christian business people use their faith as business boundaries. In other words, my faith does not extend into my business or the practice thereof. They fail to exercise grace even when they have put another in unfair financial bondage. The lesson that is first and foremost is that God is part of all areas of our lives and has no boundaries. Nothing is ever, “Just business.”

When you keep God out of your business, you keep God out of your life!

If the hope for the future is the local church, we are going to need to teach people to fight fair. Disagreements are obviously going to take place in the holy church run by less than holy people. But for us to survive and glorify the Lord, we need to learn how to behave.

So how does one behave in the church? The same way one behaves out of the church; Biblical Principles.

God’s word has something to say about all things in life and has added some extra words when it comes to Godly behavior. Perhaps the wisest thing to remember about church etiquette is to never speak out or react to situations in the church until you have read the scriptures and understand what they are saying.

The road to peace is paved with Biblical truth.

Being a hero isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Many heroes risk their lives and suffer great loss for the sake of others. The update on the war in Iraq and other parts of the world tell of the heroes of battle on the news everyday. The problem, the casualties are high and most of the heroes are dead.

The update of the war against sin is much brighter. Only one casualty in the past 2000 years. Oh yes, others have died for the cause. But one man, Jesus, the Son of the living God gave His life that others, whether they die as martyrs or at the appointed time of the aged, will live forever.

No other hero has ever died so that another may live forever!

Building a church from scratch sounds really exciting to a lot of people. In many ways, it is exciting. The people who are part of the church from the beginning will experience things that will most likely be once in a lifetime experiences. However, in the midst of the excitement brings a word that is rarely used in many peoples vocabulary and its meaning is oblivious to them, sacrifice. One dictionary says that sacrifice is, “To give entirely to a specific person, activity, or cause; “She committed herself to the work of God”; “give one’s talents to a good cause”; “consecrate your life to the church.”

My definition would be somewhat different, “To give up some of the temporal to get all of the eternal.”

We all have a choice to make when it comes to our spiritual life. We can depend upon the power of God or the power of people. Man can move a mountain with heavy mechanical equipment. Man can move a mountain through God with the smallest amount of faith and the spoken word.

Got any mountains to move? Try the power of God. He is much more familiar with mountains than man, considering that He created them!

A few days ago, I noticed the floor in the upstairs bathroom was wet. I realized that the stool was leaking and figured out why but couldn’t always get it to stop. After a couple of days of dealing with towels on the floor, I decided there was an easier solution—turn off the water to the stool and turn it on only when I needed it until the landlord comes and fixes the stool. How nice it is to have a dry floor.

Many times in our lives, we deal with things continually, cleaning up the mess that sin causes. What we really need to do is stop it at the source. If you recognize that something is causing you to have sinful thoughts or desires, get rid of it. And then go to your Heavenly Father, repent, and ask Him to take care of the “Sin Flow” in your life. And He will do it. All He is waiting for is that you come to Him and ask Him to take care of the problem.

Marriage as God intended it in the beginning is between one man and one woman. Right now in the United States, we are seeing several states try to abolish God’s plan for marriage and instead allow two men or two women to marry.

The sad part is many Christians are not standing up for traditional marriage, and instead are being silent. Recent polls have indicated that less than 40-percent of Christians in the United States think that same sex marriage is wrong. May I encourage you to head to the Bible and read about God’s plan for marriage? Then stand up and let your voice be heard.

We will be conducting a Pastor’s Conference in Monterrey, Mexico on June 12th with about 200 people attending (100 pastors and their wives). As we gather together, American speakers will share their hearts and experiencing with the Mexican pastors. Although none of the speakers speak Spanish and communicate through an interpreter, a “Jesus Bond” takes place when the pastors hear the hearts of the speakers and the speaker hears the heart of the people. Language is not a barrier when people have a “Jesus Bond.”

Perhaps when people speak the same language they spend too much time talking and listening and not enough time establishing a “Jesus Bond,” no language needed!

What would happen if every time there was a problem in a church an angel appeared with a “Peace Officers” badge and said, “I have been sent by God to restore order here?” In actuality, God does send “Peace Officers” who are often right in the church, brothers and sisters in Christ who are capable of bringing peace to the most difficult disagreements or dissentions in the church. But they don’t act. They stand on the sidelines and watch the spiritual bloodletting of, often times, very good people who have gone awry.

So the question must be asked, “Why don’t the peacemakers act? I don’t know. The only thing I can think of is that they can’t find their badge!

A few weeks ago, I was beginning to feel that evil was taking over the neighborhood where I live. This was not a good feeling and it is hard to describe the feelings that were taking over.

But as I considered what I saw happening, I was reminded of one simple fact: God inhabits the praises of His people. And considering the fact that darkness and light can’t both be in the same place, I made a decision. There would be God’s praises sung and played continually in my house.

A couple of days ago, I realized that there was a difference. Probably the biggest difference is my attitude, but I have noticed a calming down in the community. The Lord also showed me that I need to be praying for these people.

All around us we see evil. Our reaction to it can be one of cowering in fear or of praising our God in spite of what we see, knowing that He is ultimately in control.

While visiting some friends this week, my 18-month old daughter decided to show some affection to their cat. Unfortunately, the cat didn’t return the affection, and proceeded to leave some very long and deep scratches on her arm. My wife comforted her immediately, but she’ll have a “reminder” of her experience with “Jasper” the cat for several days to come. It might be a few weeks, but I would imagine that she would still want to “reach out” to cats that she sees, although she might be a bit more careful in doing so.

Many times as Christians we can get “battle scars” and are afraid to reach out to others around us to show affection and Christian love. We have been hurt in the past and don’t want to get hurt again. The people we are afraid of can even be under our own roof (our spouse or children). Yes, we will get battle scars along the way, but God is faithful, and is there with loving arms when we get “scarred” in the battle. The nail pierced hands know what you are going through.

In the United States, it is tax day! Everyone must file his or her taxes with the government today or face high penalties. So, millions of Americans who have waited to the last minute will flood to the post office to mail their taxes to avoid the penalties. If a person had a literal “deadline” and knew that they were going to die on a certain day or knew that Jesus was coming back on a certain day, they would be flocking to the church and seeking God for the salvation of their souls.

Well, it doesn’t work that way. God calls us to be faithful and thankful for everyday not knowing whether it will be our last or not. So in these last days, draw close to God and accept His eternal reward without the risk of eternal penalties!

God forgives you and He loves you. Commit your life to Him today for the salvation of your soul.

With more lives being lost daily in the war in Iraq, the American people are becoming dismayed and restless. But the death toll in Iraq does not even begin to mirror the killing of the innocent around the world both in and out of the womb.

It is said that over half of the populations of Africa has full blown AIDS or is infected with the HIV virus and the death of millions is inevitable. The starvation of children around the world brings wailing from mothers who bury their children, dying from malnutrition, lack of water or related diseases. Abortionists are still killing thousands of babies daily and it is rarely mention in the nightly news. Ethnic cleansing, the sexual mutilation of young girls and infanticide still screams from around the world. Above the silence that surrounds it, death and sorrow is commonplace for many.

So what are you going to personally do about it? If you’re spiritual life is going to church on Sunday, attending Sunday School, going to Bible Study and paying your tithes you are doing what you should but you are not doing what you could!

What could you do? Ask God to show you and I am convinced you will be part of the solution if you are obedient to His calling.

When I face God in the final hours of my life I want to be able to confess to Him that I not only did what I should but I did what I could.

Because of the immense pressure many church leaders have on themselves today in regard to ministry finances, leadership spends way too much time “building the bank account” and far too little time “building faith in the people.” Unless we find a way to change that we will continue on the road to beautiful, full facilities and empty hearts!

Easter. Jesus is risen. Cries of Alleluia are everywhere.

But I think many Christians put Jesus back in the tomb after Easter Sunday, or they try to. What do I mean about that?

There are a couple of ways people try to keep Jesus in the tomb. If Jesus is truly risen from the dead, we should be some of the happiest people on earth. Yes, life can be hard at times, but we serve a risen and victorious Lord who will see us through the hard times.

And then there are those who go to church on Sunday, proclaiming that Jesus is risen, but they don’t live for their risen Savior the rest of the week. During the week, there is no evidence of Christ in their lives.

We serve a risen Savior. Let’s live like it. And let’s tell the world He is risen and that He reigns in our hearts.

The recent Mel Gibson movie “The Passion of the Christ,” brings the scripture passages to light in ways never seen by man before except those witnesses present at the time. It is my prayer that the recent renewed interest in Christ will bring lasting revival in the hearts of people and churches around the world. Of course, revival starts in each of our hearts and is spread through our actions.

When we face trials in this world we should not be surprised. Jesus faced the great trial of allowing himself to be beaten and crucified. For us to think that we should be “trial free” would be naive. And trials usually attack us in our weakest areas or the things that we hold so dear. However, because we are human beings, if we faced trial free daily lives we would be weak, faithless and ineffective. Trials are temporary. Faith is eternal!

“When the power of darkness comes in like a flood, the battle belongs to the Lord!” These are the words in a popular worship song that is song in many of our churches. The power of darkness is not something new for Christians but has been the struggle of man even back to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. When Jesus died on Calvary there were tremendous battles taking place as Satan tried to bring his dominion to man. But rather, Jesus rose from the dead overcoming evil with the power of God. From a dark day to the son-rise, the battle belonged to the Lord.

So it is in our lives. When God is working and we are serving Him in obedience there is a battle that is raging in the heavenlies. That battle is real and should not be taken lightly. But, the battle belongs to the Lord.

So keep holding on in earnest prayer as you wait for God. The day is coming when you will see the Son-rise! And for those who may be your critics, lest they judge from the throne of divinity they are not qualified to judge you.

Today is Palm Sunday. It always amazes me to think that probably the same people who were shouting “Hosanna” would, in just a few days, be shouting “Crucify Him”. Why the change? Maybe because Jesus didn’t fit their idea of what the Messiah would do.

Many times we are the same way. We have our ideas of how God will work in our lives, and in expectation of what He will do, we sing His praises. But when we realize that He has a different plan, do we turn our praises into shouts of “Crucify Him”?

There are many times that I have thought I knew how God would work out something in my life, but rarely did He do things the way I expected Him to do them. But as I look back, I can say that His way is perfect. We need to trust Him at all times, not just when He does things the way we want Him to do them. His ways are perfect, not mine and not yours. We need to learn to trust Him completely, knowing His plans are for our good.

You’ve most likely experienced “fuzzy vision.” Like when you are driving at night and things at times get blurry. Or when your stare at your computer screen for too long and things start to “melt” together. One cure is to see if glasses would help. For me, that was the answer, and another sure sign that I’m not the teen-ager that I once was.

The problem with adjusting to your glasses is there discomfort at times (my head has hurt many days this week from the “adjustment” headache), and getting used to wearing something on my face (even though I don’t need to wear them all the time—I am trying to break them in). The flip side is that my distance vision is great (I can actually read the road signs now—my wife says that’s a good thing), and I can see things with more clarity. Yes, things are coming into focus easily.

It’s the same way with God. Is he a mystery to you? Have you asked him to be the Lord and Savior of your life? Then get into his word, and his character will come into “focus” for you. Pray and you will see things with more “clarity.” Yes, there will be times of “discomfort,” (like adjusting to new glasses), as he is molding you into his new creation, but in a short time you’ll be seeing things with “God vision.”

A common fallacy that circulates readily among young people is that evil or evil people do not affect good people. In theory it sounds good but because of the common plight of the nature of man and the weakness of the will, a lot of good people are enticed and affected by evil or evil people. Don’t kid yourself. Nothing good comes out of hanging around evil!
