Thought For The Day – December 2004

Monday, December 27, 2004

The world in which we live makes a lot of nothing and little of something. If that were not the case we would see hours a day of dedicated time to Christ’s birth on television and few if any commercials from stores having their latest sale. The gift of things dominates the Christmas airwaves over the King of kings. If the commercialization of Christmas has dominated your life the past few days, make sure the Spirit of Christ (mas) dominates your life the other 360 some days!

-Matt 6:19-21 NIV
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

I received this email earlier today, “Your welcome, and sorry I don’t belive in Christmas.”

I realized the person who sent this to me misspelled “believe” as “belive.” Then suddenly I realized that there are a lot of people who have not accepted Christ will not “belive” this Christmas. Life without faith in Jesus, the “Babe of Bethlehem,” cannot be overcome by merely celebrating a declared holiday. If you want to “belive” you have to “believe.”

-John 20:31 NIV
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

-1 John 5:12 NIV
He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

In the last few months I have written little but that should not be interpreted that I don’t have much to say. These past few months have been extremely busy with the continued development of Pine City Community Church and Home and Away Ministries’ Great Commission Alliance in Mexico, planning five conferences in Mexico in 2005, Ruby’s Pantry which has distributed over $400,000 worth of food and goods in 2004, Hearts For The Hungry and the leadership and funding for all of these ministries. Unfortunately, the ChurchMouse has been squeezed out in the demand for my time for fundraising and leadership.

Funding has become not only time consuming but energy consuming as I have discovered that the old saying, “Money doesn’t grow on trees” is true! In fact, often it appears that money isn’t growing anywhere. Finances seem to be a universal problem for many people and organizations today. But if money is the controlling focus of your life, the life of your church or ministry it steals away and distorts the blessings and disables joy. So count your blessings instead of dollars and see what the Lord has done.

The greatest disability in our world today is “disabled Joy,” the inability to rejoice in what we have, who we are and who God is because of our focus and grip on money and things.

-Ps 90:14 NIV
Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
