What does holiness mean to you?
Holiness means being separated from the things of the world (vanity) and identifying yourself with Him. The book of Deuteronomy sheds light on the way to live completely dedicated to God.
Each of us as a child of God should understand that whenever we choose a path, that the consequences of that choice follow. God cannot bless or bring prosperity on the one who is disobedient or unfaithful.
-Betty Hernández
-Deuteronomy 30:15-20
See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.
This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Being sensitive to the presence of God.
I begin with this subtitle because many times we sin and don’t immediately realize what we have done. Because sin is subtil and our hearts may not perceive or recognize it, the sin becomes greater than it need be. So, those who most need to repent and receive forgiveness are not even aware of their spiritual condition. So we need to examine our hearts daily, asking God to shed light and show us any and all sin and to clean us from all unrighteousness.
Recognize that many times God doesn’t answer our prayers because our sin stands in the way. Allow for a time of reflexion and repentance.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-Psalm 19:12
Who can discern his errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.

Do you think it is important to face sin and a bad attitude before they take root and lead to hateful acts?
The answer that I would give is yes and that reason we need to turn our back on the fear of facing sin or of becoming discouraged. Trust in the presence of God because the Lord has promised to always be with you and keep you from fear.
-Betty Hernández
-Deuteronomy 31:5-18
The LORD will deliver them to you, and you must do to them all that I have commanded you. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their forefathers to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
So Moses wrote down this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD , and to all the elders of Israel. Then Moses commanded them: “At the end of every seven years, in the year for canceling debts, during the Feast of Tabernacles, when all Israel comes to appear before the LORD your God at the place he will choose, you shall read this law before them in their hearing. Assemble the people-men, women and children, and the aliens living in your towns-so they can listen and learn to fear the LORD your God and follow carefully all the words of this law. Their children, who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
The LORD said to Moses, “Now the day of your death is near. Call Joshua and present yourselves at the Tent of Meeting, where I will commission him.” So Moses and Joshua came and presented themselves at the Tent of Meeting.
Then the LORD appeared at the Tent in a pillar of cloud, and the cloud stood over the entrance to the Tent. And the LORD said to Moses: “You are going to rest with your fathers, and these people will soon prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them. On that day I will become angry with them and forsake them; I will hide my face from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters and difficulties will come upon them, and on that day they will ask, ‘Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is not with us?’ And I will certainly hide my face on that day because of all their wickedness in turning to other gods.

The Bible says: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God”. Ephesians 2:8
Have you received this saving grace?
Receiving the grace of God is neither complicated nor difficult. It only requires that you accept that God is able to save you and that He desires to do so. Then the you decide to humbly call on His name. The Lord is ready to be your Savior, but the decision is yours.
Make up your mind to call on the name of Jesus for salvation and liberty. Recognize that “calling on His name” means to invite Him to be your Savior and Liberator in all areas and moments of your life.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-Romans 10:11-13
As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile–the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Did you know that our victories are a result of our giving ourselves completely to Christ and of allowing Him to work through us to defeat the obstacles and whatever comes against us.
Today I want to tell you how to have victory. Submit your life continuously to the authority and the power of Jesus. Recognize that He comes as the captain of his army to lead us to victory.

-Joshua 5:13-15
Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”
“Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the LORD I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord [1] have for his servant?”
The commander of the LORD’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.

Have you ever heard of Daniel? I think you probably have. But I would like to tell you a little about him.
Daniel and his friends provide an example of a testimony of faith under the threat of torture and death. We all know that because of disobeying the king, Daniel’s friends were thrown into the fiery furnace. They had disobeyed the king, because he had ordered them to bow down to an idol, and not to the one and true God. They were trusting that God in heaven would protect them and He did.
Can you believe that God is able to free you from difficult circumstances? Of course He will free you. Be ready to face death rather than deny your faith.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-Daniel 3:16-18
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Do you know how to grow in holiness? You can grow through studying and practicing God’s word, but this isn’t enough. We need to know the Scriptures well enough to be able to apply it in different situations in life. God promises that this type of faithfulness will bring a life of blessings.
So the only thing left is to meditate daily on God and to memorize Scripture passages. Then start looking for ways to put the things you learn into practice.
These promises of God promise and prosperous and victorious life in Christ.
-Betty Hernández
-Joshua 1:7-8
Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

I would like to tell you what qualities the Spirit creates in the mature believer. Humility and meekness are the qualities the Spirit creates. The opposite of these are pride and arrogance and they do not come from the Spirit. Humility refuses to promote its’ own interests but seeks rather to serve others. Also, humility is essential to being Christ-like.
Humble yourself in the presence of the Lord. Understand that this is the only way to be cleaned and to receive a clear vision of your ministry calling.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-Isaiah 6:5-7
“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”
Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

What do you think is the most important requirement to be a good leader?
Those who God calls to have positions of leadership should be faithful servants of His Word and always understand that God is the One who creates, edifies and governs through His Word. So leaders need to face this reality and be faithful, not following the latest trends or the desire of the heart. They also should not worry about being important or popular.
Leader, don’t forget that the children of God have been persecuted simply because they proclaim the Word of God.
May the zeal of the Lord Jesus always be in your heart.
-Betty Hernández
-Jeremiah 37:15-16
They were angry with Jeremiah and had him beaten and imprisoned in the house of Jonathan the secretary, which they had made into a prison.
Jeremiah was put into a vaulted cell in a dungeon, where he remained a long time.

Have you ever thought about getting to know better what the Bible says?
In the book of Proverbs we are told the wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord and therefore with knowledge of God, and that means He is the main factor. Because of His divine origin, this understanding is essential.
Seek wisdom. Guard it as the most valuable possession you have once you find it.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-Proverbs 2:4-6
and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the LORD
and find the knowledge of God.
For the LORD gives wisdom,
and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

One key point about faith is that a person who has faith trusts in the Word of God and understands that God is faithful to His word. He/She knows that God honors His Word above all else and knows that God has promised to fulfill what is written in His word. He continues to trust in God’s promises and takes its’ warnings seriously. That person understands that the Word of God has control over all nations and all history.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-Jeremiah 1:9-10
Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “Now, I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”

That’s how it is with sin.
I start with this sentence because each one of us knows that we cannot permit that known sin remain in the lives of those who love and serve God. Since God cannot tolerate sin in His presence, prayer is useless until sin is confessed and the spiritual barrier that we have built between God and us is removed.
Face up to the sin in your life. Confess any erroneous conduct with no wavering. Remember you can’t hide from God.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-Jonah 1:4-16
Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up. All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship.
But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep. The captain went to him and said, “How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us, and we will not perish.”
Then the sailors said to each other, “Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity.” They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah.
So they asked him, “Tell us, who is responsible for making all this trouble for us? What do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?”
He answered, “I am a Hebrew and I worship the LORD , the God of heaven, who made the sea and the land.” This terrified them and they asked, “What have you done?” (They knew he was running away from the LORD , because he had already told them so.)
The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him, “What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?” “Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied, “and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you.”
Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before. Then they cried to the LORD , “O LORD , please do not let us die for taking this man’s life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you, O LORD , have done as you pleased.” Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm. At this the men greatly feared the LORD , and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows to him.

Today more than ever I have been realizing that the more we draw close to God, the more Satan attacks us. But if we are covered with the power of the Word, the name and the blood of Christ, there is no danger that the enemy can defeat us. Remember that the power to stay strong in the Lord comes from spending time with God in prayer. It is a vital fount of power. When we wait in God’s presence, there comes a divine change and we exchange our nothingness for His all, and our weakness is lost in His strength.
Be strong in the Lord.
-Betty Hernández
-Ephesians 6:10-19
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.

Do you know what it means to trust? To trust is to trust and rest in the integrity, the strength, the ability and the honesty of someone. To trust in God is to believe in Him (this means taking His word seriously) and that what His word says is true.
Remember: Trust in God and not in yourself.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-Psalm 118:8
It is better to take refuge in the LORD
than to trust in man.

The moment you arrived in this world, God was there as a silent witness, smiling because you were born. He wanted you to know that your arrival in this world filled Him with joy. God didn’t need to create you, but He decided to do it for His pleasure. You exist for the benefit, glory, purpose and delight of God. The main purpose in life should be to please God with our lifestyle. Remember that you are important for God and that He considers you to be so valuable that He wants you to be with Him for all of eternity. What more could you ask for. Knowing that you are a child of God and that He has created you should give you joy.
Remember to live always in holiness before God.
-Betty Hernández
-Ephesians 1:4-5
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will

I don’t know if you have heard or read in the Bible the story of Esther. The Bible says that Esther was very beautiful. Now I have a question for you.
What is your security in this life? You can lose your possessions, beauty fades, relationships can break down. But the true security is found beyond this life. Only when our security rests in God and in His unchanging nature will we be able to face the struggles that this life surely will bring us.
Esther had the strength to go before the king even when he had not requested her to appear. But she was not afraid because she trusted in the God who was always with her and would never leave her.
Many times, serving God demands that we put our personal safety at risk, but God has said that He will cover us and that we are secure in His hands.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-Psalm 91:4
He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

What do you think is the only way to get to God? Of course the only way is Jesus Christ because He is the door to God.
The Lord is calling us to get in the race and to desire the spiritual things that will enable us to be with Him forever. We want to be able to say with Paul, “I have finished the race”. The desire of our heart should be to proclaim and testify of God’s love to others and give others the grace that we have received.
Today is time to keep going forward and not to be stuck in the past.
-Betty Hernández
-Luke 13:24
He said to them, “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.
-Philippians 3:13-14
Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Do you know what loyalty is?
Loyalty is one of the most costly qualities in life. It is a very important part of what we call love. The Bible mentions a brilliant youth who knew what it meant to be loyal. His name was Jonathan.
Jonathan at times had a conflict of loyalties. He wanted to be loyal to both his father Saul and his friend David. The solution that he came to in his conflict teaches us how to be loyal and what should guide our loyalty. In Jonathan, his loyalty was always guided by truth. Jonathan realized that the fountain of truth was the God that demanded his supreme loyalty.
Remember that loyalty is one of the strongest facets of bravery.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-2 Samuel 1:26
I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother;
you were very dear to me.
Your love for me was wonderful,
more wonderful than that of women.

Did you know that one of the greatest enemies of the Christian is fear?
Many times we don’t think about the fact that when we talk, as children of God, our words have to line up with what the Word of God say. Our words have power and they can produce faith or the opposite-fear.
-Betty Hernández
-Proverbs 6:1-2
My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor,
if you have struck hands in pledge for another,
if you have been trapped by what you said,
ensnared by the words of your mouth,
-Romans 10:17
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

Have you ever thought about David? Perhaps you think of him as a great shepherd, poet, giant killer, king, etc. These are just a few of the qualities that perhaps all of us would like to have. But David is remembered and respected more for his heart toward God. The great difference between David and many of us is that he sinned greatly, but not repeatedly. He learned from his mistakes because he accepted the suffering that his sin brought him.
Remember that sincerely recognizing our errors is the first step in facing them.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-2 Samuel 7:28-29
O Sovereign LORD , you are God! Your words are trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant. Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, O Sovereign LORD , have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever.”

Did you know that there are three ways to live before God?
Here they are:
1. The life that pleases God. This consists in having His words in mind and they determine each action. This involves prayer and fasting and having communion with Him
2. The life that doesn’t please God is the one where the person does everything contrary to God’s word.
3. The life that humans think is the best involves giving God one or two hours and the rest is given to worldly pleasures.
It is easy to choose which type of life we are leading. Many people think there is a middle ground where they can have a little of all three. But that is not the case. God calls these people lukewarm in the book of Revelation. These people make God sick to His stomach and there are consequences for that type of life and we all know what those consequences are.
Now ask yourself this: How does God feel about the way I am living? Is He pleased or does your life make Him sick to His stomach?
-Betty Hernández
-Deuteronomy 30:15
See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction.
-Revelation 3:15-16
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

The biggest accomplishment a person can have is to help another get ahead. In the same way, the biggest failure a person can have is to have hindered someone from reaching his or her goal. The Bible mentions a woman named Delilah who played a small role in the life of Samson, but the effect she had on his life was devastating since it caused him to betray the special calling of God on his life. Delilah used her persistence to wear him down. His obsessive love for her made him an easy target. In spite of his physical strength, he couldn’t resist Delilah and he had to pay a high price for giving in to her. The Bible never mentions Delilah again. Her disloyalty to Samson ruined his life and that of his people.
Remember to only confide in people who are worthy of your trust.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-Judges 16:16-17
With such nagging she prodded him day after day until he was tired to death.
So he told her everything. “No razor has ever been used on my head,” he said, “because I have been a Nazirite set apart to God since birth. If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as any other man.”

The first thing I did this morning was to give thanks to God. One more time I asked myself how can I separate myself from the world and the things it tells me that I need. The answer is that by believing that Jesus is the Son of God we have victory. So it is not just the fact that we live in this world that gives us the right to take on attitudes that we shouldn’t have. Remember that with God’s help we can separate ourselves from the desires of this world. All we need is the hand of our all-powerful God resting on us.
-Betty Hernández
-1 John 2:15-17
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world–the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does–comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

I have a question for you. Do you like to feel that you have power and are in control?
I think we all like that. We all want to have control especially over our lives. But God says in His word that He wants the best for us. That includes that we give Him control of our lives.
-Nohemi Meléndez
-Romans 8:5-6
Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;

Have you ever thought why go to Youth Group?
We need to take a moment to think about and understand the verse “so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” (Romans 12:5) How would you feel if you were missing one part of your body? I think you would feel bad and would feel the rest of the body would sense that something is wrong.
So we need to encourage one another to love and to do good works, and not forget the importance of joining together.
Let us take care of each other and encourage one another.

Did you know that each family has to go through some tough times periodically? For some, it may be the loss of a job and not having enough money to buy food and clothing. For others it could be a serious illness or having to move far away from family and friends.
Every family has to go through some tough times, but God has given families help in facing these challenges. Remember that God doesn’t want us to fall in the tough times and He has given us a way to stay strong.

When you pray, do you have the assurance that God will answer you or do you feel unworthy of God’s attention? What is prayer for you? Is it a way to get needs met or is it the bread of life that we have in Christ?
Remember that prayer is not just asking and receiving, but it also involves being grateful, worshipping and praising God.
God bless.

-Matthew 7:7-11
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

All of us can think of someone who bothers us. Without even realizing it, we may be talking bad about that person and telling everyone everything bad we can think of about that person. When we made derogatory remarks about someone, we judge that person.
God knows each one of us very well. He knows why we often fall into the temptation of judging others. But let me tell you that this is something that is very serious.
Remember. “Love your neighbor as you love yourself”.
-Nohemy Meléndez
-Matthew 7:1-2
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Sunday I was feeling really sad and I had thousands of questions in my head. I was feeling a sense of desperation and when I arrived at church for prayer, I could feel the presence of the Lord in such a way that my body began to quiver. As the minutes passed, I sought God and told Him that my soul was troubled and that I wanted to be different. God spoke to my spirit and reminded me that if His people humble themselves, He will answer and heal the land. I then understood that He is always with us and that we are different from those around us. Why do I know that? Because His word says so.
If you have a problem or something is bothering you, take the Word of God and remind yourself of its’ promises. He will always hear your prayers and He will answer your questions and comments wherever you might be.

Did you know that our names have real power? Our names have importance as to how they are written or pronounced. Each one of us feels special when someone remembers our name.
Our names aren’t important just for us. They are also important to Jesus.
I have a question for you. How do feel knowing that Jesus knows your name?
-Nohemi Meléndez
-John 10:2-3 NIV
The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

In the past few days I have been feeling a little sad. Why? Because I haven’t seen my mother for 2 weeks. I know that she is well, working for God in His work by taking the Gospel to places that need to hear about our all powerful God, but the last few days I have been really thinking about how important my mother is to me. There have been times when I didn’t listen to her but now I know that I need her and would love to have her with me, so that I can tell her that I love her and that I miss her and want her to be with me.
How much do you value your parents? Perhaps today you have them with you and you know that you need them. So the next time you see your parents, tell them you love them and that you need them. But if you no longer have your parents, put your love and trust in Jesus and then in another person you trust and love.
God bless you.

I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.
