Jumping the Fence…Successfully

For some reason today I thought about a time when I was taking a shortcut home from school when I was in third grade and I decided to walk across a pasture to take a short cut. Short cuts can be very intriguing but also very hazardous. As I began to cross the wooded pasture I heard a noise and when I looked up there was a rather large horse running toward me full speed. Needless to say it scared me half to death! I did the first natural thing that came to my mind and I ran full speed to a large tree standing there and got behind it. The horse ran to the tree and stared at me and tried to move around the tree toward me. Of course, I kept on circling the tree to stay away from him. This went on for several minutes.

Finally I decided I needed to make a run for the fence to get away from this crazy horse. I took a deep breath and busted into as fast of a run as possible with the horse right behind me. When I got to the fence I did the only feasible thing I thought I could do and I made a jump over the fence without stopping or grabbing anything. This was not advisable! My coat caught on the fence and I was hanging in midair from the fence, petrified. The horse ran up to me and it appeared to me that he was going to rise up on his back legs but instead he just came up to me and smelled me. After a few minutes he walked away and I managed to somehow get off the fence and I ran for home, the long way around. Needless to say, I never took that shortcut again!

I am reminded that there are also no shortcuts with God. You either believe in Him or you don’t. It is in each of our own hands but God never lets it alone and He will leave us hanging on the fence of life day after day after day. If you have not ever expressed you faith in God or sought His forgiveness, I encourage you today, ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and He will. You don’t need anyone with you. Just talk to God! He knows how to listen and talk to you. Please let us know if you have done this.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. -John 3:16-18
